Specifications
This is the hardware:
- 1 serial console on slot 1
- 2 10/100 ports on slot 2
- 24 10/100 ports on slot 3
CPU
No idea - Could be a sparc derivitive, given the SPARC chip on the board.
Console and serial cable
The front panel console port is a bog standard RS232 socket. You need a 9 pin serial cable with a male end for your computer, and a female end for the switch. Minicom is known to work fine. Port speeds should be 9600 N81.

VLANs
Working on this section
VLANs are Virtual LANs and they're a bloody nightmare.
VLAN Terminology
Ports
Also known as Switch Ports, these are the physical sockets on the front or rear of the switch.
Port Map
Nothing to do with IP ports or physical switch ports - a port map is XXX XXX?
Group
Organisational collection of ports. Switch can store 500 groups, which can be mobile, mobile based on authentication, or non-mobile (traditional port-based) All three can exist on the same switch, but a port cannot be in both mobile and non-mobile groups.
Also called "broadcast domains" because they limit the spread of broadcasts.
Slot
Describes the construction of the switch. Larger configurable backplanes may have 3/5/9/more slots which hold cards. The OS4024 has three slots which are not changeable. Slot 1 is the MPX (management processor) and the console serial ports. Slot 2 contains the two separate ports in the middle. Slot 3 contains 24 10/100 ports on the right of the unit.

How can I reset the switch to Factory Defaults?
I advise unplugging all ethernet cables from your switch before doing this.
- You need to connect via a console serial cable with suitable terminal software running
- Power on the switch
- Hit any key when prompted by boot process about 10 seconds after power-up to get to boot/diagnostic menu
- Enter c
- Press enter (which accepts the defaults) until line displays: "Boot Flags :0xb"
- Enter 0x1000
- Press enter until back at the "[Boot]:" prompt
- Enter S to save settings (thats a capital S)
- Enter @ to boot
The Switch has reset to factory defaults.

Where can I find configuration documentation (instructions) for an Omnistack 4024C?
No idea - thats why I compiled all my findings on one page for other users. If you know something I don't please tell me.
How do you change the switch's IP address from the default 192.168.10.1?
You need to connect via a console serial cable with suitable terminal software running
Power on the switch
Hit any key when prompted by boot process about 10 seconds after power-up to get to boot/diagnostic menu
Enter c
Press enter (which accepts the defaults) until line displays: "Boot Options:"
Enter dvip:hostname,ip,netmask,broadcast
that is dvip:myswitch,192.168.66.77,255.255.255.248,192.168.66.64
Press enter until back at the "[Boot]:" prompt
Enter S to save settings (thats a capital S)
Enter @ to boot
The Switch will now have a new IP. Note - any errors on saving may imply the flash storage has died. Also, if the settings aren't sticking while the unit is power off then that suggests flash storage problems.
I did a factory reset and all my ports are coming up as half-duplex. How do I fix it??
Log into the switch via serial or telnet, and type 10/100vc
to see the config. Set all ports to auto negotiate with 10/100cfg 3/
and 10/100cfg 2/ for both ports on slot 2. If you then want to
change individual ports back to half duplex or 10 Mbit then 10/100cfg 3/1
will modify port 1 of the 24 on slot 3.
Whats a CAM?
Content Addressable Memory, which is used by the switch to extend the size and/or speed of tables like MAC and BGP. CAMs typically have processing power on them.
Can I find the temperature?
hdstat shows a line of temperatures for the last 1 min avg, and 1 hour avg and maximum.
Still to document
